Kids up at 7:00, before we tore into everything.

We always do a duck for dinner, but Ethan mistakenly bought a capon (a castrated rooster). It was still really good and I finally made good gravy!

And just because we will eventually forget what we all got for Christmas, here is my list to look back on later.

It's Christmas eve!

Friday morning we surprised Logan by being at his school assembly. He was student of the month.

Like his Storm Shadow costume? It was snow day and you were supposed to wear all white.

Last night we went to see the Mesa Temple lights.

Jane walked around with her hands in her pockets and we thought it was too cute.

The Deans met up with us there and recommended a really cool place to eat.

We went to a pizza place called Organ Stop and it was pretty neat. There were 2 floors and we were upstairs. I wish it wasn't so dark so you could see it better, but at least you can hear it.

The whole place was filled with organ pipes and we were sitting right next to the bass ones that shook our table and above us are the horns you can hear in this video.

I spray-painted this large drip pan from Walmart. It's now Jane's magnet board. Ethan didn't want all these magnets on the fridge anymore so this was the solution. (Idea came from Pinterest).

I also painted a mirror to match and we put it at her level so she can use it.

And just because. I told her to pull up her pants. She just stares at me and gives me this smile. She's learned that smiling like this makes us smile and then she gets away with things.

And it's been awhile since I had my last one, so we were due for another.

I LOVE it so I don't want to get rid of it anytime soon.

BUT that doesn't mean Ethan won't be changing his car every day :)

Last Friday these lovely pieces of furniture came. They are modular so we can move them wherever/however we want.

If it's not one thing, it's another...

We had it delivered the day we moved in.

It came broken. So last Saturday they came with replacement parts.

Those were broken too. So we got a refund and the boys are currently sleeping on mattresses on the floor.

At least I have an awesome new washer!

Here are the kids on the day we closed.

We were waiting for Ethan to get there. He didn't want us to go inside without him because of our tradition of him carrying me over the threshold :)

We sure have had a case of bad luck lately. And pictured is one of them, or should I say NOT pictured. We've been in the house a week without our couches so this rug has turned into our lounge area.

Logan's been busy at cutting out things and making inventions.

My friends Jenna and Torrie came by yesterday with all their kids. It sure got loud in here, but was so much fun.

The garage awaiting for things to be put away. I was working on painting the kid's toy boxes.

Jane's room and she's now in a toddler bed. The first 4 days she got up before 6:00 so I have a blanket and pillows under her bed that I would lay on until it was a reasonable hour to wake up.

Zoe and other stuff

Well I said I would update on Zoe.

Ethan and I had a talk and decided that she needed to live with my parents because we just weren't treating her well. The kids didn't like her and she was always getting yelled at.

So I flew her to NY where she is literally in a better place.

Jane came with me to NY and my dad made this amazing doll house for her that we brought back with us.

I dug into some of my old toys at their house and found my Wish World Kids. Anyone ever have these? I loved them and they are perfect for the house.

My mom and I also made lots of pillow cases. This is Jane's first pillow.

And last but not least, my AFAA certificate saying I passed!

It said I got 7 wrong on my written exam (out of 100), so that's pretty good.

New table and house update

Remember a couple months ago I bought this table on craigslist?

It sure was ugly, but I saw potential.

While I was in NY this past week, Ethan got to work on the table and chairs. We had already recovered the cushions (in my orange IKEA curtains) so he had to patch a huge gash in the table top and paint everything. This was a MASSIVE undertaking, which took 5 days.

We bought the Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations kit to do it.

And he's so handy that he added wood to the sides of the inserts so they would match the whole table.

The only thing left I need to do is paint the little metal pieces on it. I'm thinking a gunmetal color.

Our house is pretty much done!

We close on Friday.

Ruler growth chart

I've been wanting to do this for awhile.

I made 2 because one is for a friend.

I got the idea from Pinterest here.

So I still need to spray the finishing coat on them, but for the most part they are done.

I'll hang it on the wall (6" off the ground), and find a non-bleeding pen to mark the kid's heights.

If you are wondering, I used 2 different paint pens for the markings. A regular paint pen for the lines and a special wood pen/marker for the numbers because it had a pointy tip.

The Painted House Update

I went to the house today and our carpet is in!

Who knew carpet would make me excited.

I went inside, took off my shoes and walked all over it.

Ethan stopped by on his way home and took these pictures with his phone.

One day we drove by the house and they were smoothing out the concrete so I asked if the kids could put their hand prints in it.

Now the fun parts of the house are starting!

Here are our bathroom cabinets (same at the kitchen). These were one of the upgrades we splurged on because we don't want to have to replace them later.

We also got our baseboards in; I'll take a picture of those once our pretty floor is in.

And now for our Anniversary.

Ethan gets 5 stars for this one! He COMPLETELY surprised me. Turns out he has had this planned since June and I thought he was just going to do something this weekend.

I took Logan to school on Monday and came home. Right as I was about to leave for the workout I hear the garage door open and Ethan come home.

I thought he was at work.

He told me he had a meeting that morning.

His meeting was GOLF.

He packed up the kids while I was at the workout and we drove to my sister's house (and she knew all about it too).

They watched the kids and took Logan to and from school and we went HERE:

For dinner we went to Melting Pot.

House progress update

Some of you have mentioned what the floor plan looks like. Here it is:

And here are some of the modifications we are doing to it:

1. Media nook will not have fireplace, just a nook.

2. Enclosing the dining room, adding double doors to it and closing off the door to the kitchen.

3. Wood floors throughout except carpet in bedrooms and "dining" room aka our bonus room.

Oh and I LOVE the doors we picked out.

What a week!

This week has been crazy!

1. Logan started 1st grade in Verrado. I drive him there and back twice a day.

...it got old after the 2nd day. But I have only until October 7th to do it.

2. My good friend Rachael Wynn came to visit (from Italy!) with her 3 kids and stayed for the week.

She cooked us dinner every night and watched the kids when I would have to take/pickup Logan from school.

3. Ethan and Jane left on Thursday for Utah to go to my neice Natalie's baptism.

4. Thursday night I got Pneumonia.

Very unexpected. I was putting the boys to bed and felt a kink in my neck, which turned into chills which turned into full body stiffness which turned into me coughing up orange stuff.

It was awful, so the next morning I drove Logan to school and went to Urgent Care. They did a chest X ray (my first) and saw the pneumonia. It was cool to see my bones and chest cavity, I've never had an X ray.

They gave me a shot of antibiotics (in the bum) and I just about passed out.

(If you know me, you know I have had a needle phobia in the past.)

I think that almost passing out is the worst feeling I have ever felt in the world.

Second would be getting my IV flushed at the hospital.

Decluttering

Because of our move coming up, Ethan and I have set aside a weekend every week to de-clutter a room of the house. This weekend was our closet. I couldn't believe all this could even fit in our closet!

When we move we only want to move the things we want to keep. And we don't want to keep a lot.

I've mentioned before how Ethan and I want to go minimalist. One of the things they say to do when de-cluttering is to take a picture of your sentimental things instead of keeping the actual object. So that is what I did with all my art work from high school.

This is a painting I did in 4th grade of myself. It got picked to be displayed. I can't believe I'm finally throwing it away, but now I'll always have a picture of it.

Our closet looks so much better now. Next week we are doing our bedroom.

Jane is learning how to do Book of Mormon stories and it's ubber cute.

Logan is going to watch this video when his is older and find it hilarious.

Something happened the other day that has never happened before.

Jane fell asleep on the couch for the first time.

It was adoreable.

Pinetop cabin & house update

This last week (Sunday through Friday) I took the kids with me up to Pinetop AZ where my friend Helena has a cabin. We did it last year too and it's always so much cooler there, which I love. (We also got to visit with my friend Heidi who is from there.)

Here is a collage of our trip.

Jane got a hair cut, the boys played "hiking" and legos and fought "bad guys" in the woods.

Jane could have lived in the swings, she literally stayed there for hours.

I feel like I have had lots of posts of Jane lately, but we were just looking at old videos of the boys the other day and I realized I haven't taken as many of Jane as I have the boys. I wanted to capture some of the funny things she's been doing lately.

I love this one because of her little hand on Ethan.

Mother's day present

For mother's day Jenna and I decided we wanted to go to this salon that specializes in curly hair.

We went today and had a blast. They taught me a lot of techniques that I'm going to try. One thing they tell you to do is not wash it everyday and really only 2-3 times a week. That's going to be hard for me.

Here is my hair before they did anything to it.

After washing it, geling it, and putting clips up in it, they set me under the dryer (because the best way to dry curly hair is to let it air dry.)

Jane got some new shoes. They are a bit big, but she loves shoes and wanted to wear them. She wouldn't let me take them off when she napped even.

Memorial Day and chore charts

We went to my sister's for Memorial day. She got Logan a slip n slide for an early b-day present and we busted it out.

I can't believe it, a real smile from Logan. But a cheesy one from Jane.

The kids are driving me crazy. I got this idea from Jenna who got it here: confessions of a homeschooler.

I didn't have a cute hanging thing so I had to make one. They have 4 chores that they do everyday (brush teeth, get dressed, clean their room, and Gavin naps while Logan reads for 20 minutes.) Then they have 2 chores I switch out everyday.

If they get them all done for the day they get a sticker on their reward card. When they get 6 stickers they get a prize.

We have had a problem with the kids misbehaving. I made this best bee-havior chart on my own.

Ethan and I talked to the boys about asking nicely for things instead of "I want some milk" (in a whiny voice), and sharing their toys, not fighting, for Gavin not to touch Jane (because everytime he does she screams)...

At the end of the day we decide if they deserve a star for that day. When they get 4 stars in a row they get a special prize like going to get ice cream with mom or going golfing with dad. It should take them at least a month to get the 4 stars.

And because I find it funny how hard Jane cried in this video, I had to post:

Ebeanstalk takes pride in only having the best and most unique toys on their website for you to buy. They have a team of child experts test out every baby toy before it goes on their website. That way, you know you are getting only the very best learning toys available!

I came across this website that has a really neat idea: Why send a toy when you can send a year's worth of development? Every 3 months a new toy arrives expertly-matched to the stage of the child's development.

Cons: Although this is a neat idea, I don't quite understand the pricing of it. Each category has a different price with different toys. For example the cheapest package is $95.00. You get 4 toys in the course of a year (1 every 3 months). I clicked on each toy and the total added up to $63.96. I would think if you were signing up for this you should get some sort of discount on the toys, not have to pay more. Even with the "free" ($17.95) dictionary it wouldn't cost that much. Their most expensive package is $239.00. Again I added up the 4 toys in this group and the total came to $208.46 if I just bought the toys on their own separately.

I am pretty frugal, so this wouldn't be something I would think about doing.

Con: I love clearance! Like I already said, I'm a frugal person. So I browsed their clearance section and found lots of toys on sale. BUT a closer look and I counted 14 toys that not only weren't on sale, but were MORE than the regular price.

Like this stuffed moose. It's regular price is $37 and it is on "sale" for $43.99. There were 14 other toys in the clearance section that were like this. Odd.

Pros: If you are looking for a unique gift for any age child, this website is organized in a way that can lead you to the perfect toy without much effort on your end.

So it's official. I can now tell people we are moving since we just signed the papers.

That's just a view of main street. The town is called Verrado and it's amazing! I don't feel like I am in Arizona there.

So to answer some questions I know you all have...

-We will be renting our house out, not selling it.

-There is a 4-5 month build time, so we won't move until September.

-The house is just under 1900 sq ft (our current house is 1270 so a good jump up).

-I am contemplating driving Logan to his new school for the first little bit before we move in so that I don't have to transfer him next school year.

Jane has really been into books lately. This may not be new to some of you, but it's new to us. Our boys have never really just sat down to look at a book.

Jane will give you a book, then back up into your lap.

Every so often I'll make a card for my card swap that I really like.
Today was one of those occasions.

Logan's Kindergarten went to the Wildlife Zoo on Friday. I came along too. Logan is wearing his new golf hat. (Now he says he wants a glove...geez).

Children's Museum

We went to the Children's museum for the first time today and since my sister just moved out here she came too with Kyla.

Jane loved the noodles too, but Ethan took her to a 3 and under play area and she walked up and down a carpeted ramp for 1/2 an hour. Silly girl.

That was the day Logan's gold clubs came in the mail. He was SO excited about them.
Ethan had today (Friday) off so he took Logan to the driving range.

Gavin (and Chase's) 3rd Birthday

Gavin turned 3 on the 11th. So did my friend Brooke's son Chase.

They were born the exact same day in the same hospital so we decided to do a joint birthday party with our 2 families.

I made a turtle "cup"cake. And they each got to blow out their own candles.

These 3 would slide down the railing and yell "3 amigos!"

By looking at it I thought it looked pretty easy, but the pattern wasn't a beginner pattern and I had no clue what some of the lingo meant.

Lots o visits

Exciting times here at the Bluth household.

1. Ethan got a new job as a construction manager at the Palo Verde power plant in Tonopah. This is a good thing for us.

2. My sister is moving out here! Her husband is transferring jobs and she got a job in Scottsdale, now they just need a house.

They came out to look at houses this last week so the kids got to play with their cousin Kyla.

3. My parents came out to visit right after my sister and brother-in-law left just for fun.
We went to a spring training game (beautiful day for it too). There is also a picture of Zoe in her new blanket we got for her.

My mom made this adorable outfit for Jane with matching capris (which are just pants at the moment.)

Logan was ruff-housing with my dad and fell off the arm of the chair onto the track of the sliding glass door. Ouch.

Jane fell off her chair outside, luckily Papa was there to comfort her.

Gavin fell asleep like this in the car.

Tonight we saw hot air balloons outside out kitchen window. The boys thought it was pretty cool. Jane wanted to grab them.
4. And last but not least...I'm sewing. This is a big deal people! I come from the home of a master seamstress/quilter/smocker, you name it. And it wasn't until now that I've showed any interest.

For a belated birthday present, my mom bought me my first sewing machine. But I wanted her out here with me so she could show me how to use it. I am currently in the process of making Jane a skirt. I was doing great last night while my mom looked on...the second she went to bed I couldn't do anything right and I had a bunch of questions. Of course. So I hooked up a Skype account and have a feeling I'm going to need a lot of her tutoring. (I guess it's a good thing my sister will be nearby soon so she can help me too.)

Once I'm done with the skirt I'll post a picture. Wish me luck!

Once upon a time, our kitchen looked like this:

(Notice the shorter counter.)

Then we painted it yellow and added the extra cabinets.

Then we painted it "blue steel" (which really looked purplish) and added the trim and new appliances.

Now is is gray. Logan asked me why I didn't paint the kitchen. He didn't notice the change.
Which is odd because they really are different colors, but it is hard to notice.

I like it 100% better than the previous color.

It was gorgeous today so we took a 15 min drive west of us to Sun City Festival because we heard there was a nice playground there.

Logan has been singing in the car lately, even though he doesn't know the words. He asked us today if he could have an ipod for Christmas. I didn't even know he knew what that was. Turns out he said a friend brought one to school. Well I later found out that the kid said he brought an ipod, but it was really just the ear buds. So that's what Logan thinks an ipod is.

Remember Jane had her Dr. appt? I mentioned to the Dr. that she has this dent on her forhead from bonking it on the tile when she was crawling and it never went away. It was worse, but he said it might be permanent.

15 month check up

Oh my goodness, worst doctor visit ever!

She's been to the doctor before and yes she's cried during shots, but that's too be expected. This time she screamed bloody murder when I went to lay her on the scale to get weighed and clung to my shirt like I was dropping her off a cliff. Then she screamed some more when her head got measured and her temp taken. What was that all about?

We get back to the room and I wrap her in her blanket and she is satisfied...until the doctor comes in and just him looking at her sets her off.

Then Gavin (who I have in tow) decides to lay on the ground, which I thought was unacceptable so I tell him to get up.
He doesn't.
I try forcing him up which was hard since he was limp noodle and I was holding Jane, so the doctor had to pick him up and put him in the chair.

What is wrong with my kids?!
That was so embarrassing for me.

Visiting the Deans

Most who read this know our friends the Deans moved to the east valley (Mesa).

So we like to plan sleepovers so we can still do our date swap.

Friday night we just all hung out together and let the kids sleep in the same room (which means not going to bed till 9:30pm).
Saturday Ethan and I went to the Temple before anyone got up then later we went to Cyrena's soccer game. Jenna and David went out for a lunch date. It all worked out splendid.

Jenna just had a baby girl Dec. 19th and she's a cutie. Logan wanted to hold her all the time.

Cyrena let Jane have her robotic cat. (Which I just had to take out of the boy's room during Gavin's nap because "it scared him away".)

Happy Birthday to me

Yesterday was my 28th birthday.
It was also a big Oregon Ducks game.

Ethan's brothers (Kyle and Tyler) flew down for the game festivities.

Saturday Ethan surprised me by taking me out to dinner and his brothers watched the kids and put them to bed. Sweet.
Then on my birthday he had the boys bring me presents in the morning (new workout pants and a shirt and sunglasses). And at the workout I had amazing friends bring me roses, cards, lotion, cupcakes and decorated my car with signs. It was a great morning.

Ethan went and played golf with his brothers then went to Glendale to be among other Oregon Ducks fans and they were there till late. So a friend of mine invited me over to their house for a get-together where they watched the game and grilled. Good thing too, otherwise I would have had a boring birthday night :)

Ethan took the cub scouts camping so it was just me and the kids on friday night.

I rented "How to Train Your Dragon" and got McDonalds and we turned off all the lights, got our pjs on and had a movie night in the living room.

I have this picture here just to show you Logan. He was invited to a Birthday party on Saturday that was Batman themed so he insisted that he wear his batman costume. No one else was dressed up.

I was helping Jane practice standing by herself today and she took 2 steps towards me. Not much, but they are officially her first!

She also went to her 1 year check up this week.
Weighing in at 17 lbs 15oz

The doctor wants her to be 20lbs by 15 months.

Logan: 21 lbs 13oz
Gavin: 18 lbs 15oz

We sure had a busy day yesterday!

Ethan went to Scout training in Wickenburg all morning so I ran our garage sale by myself starting at 6:00am. (That's not an easy thing to do by yourself with 3 kids!)

The garage sale did surprisingly well and we made close to $200!

The sale was supposed to go till 3:00, but it tapered off around lunch time so I took the kids to our community block party.

Jane and I took a last minute trip to NY where my parents live because my Grandma, sister, and Aunt, (& niece) were going there too. I didn't want to miss out on the fun.

I've never done a girls weekend before, it was really fun. My sister and I wore our matchy shirts, my mom and I made a Dracula cape for Logan, I made the boys Halloween pillow cases, my dad and I made Logan a Last Airbender staff, and I brought home many more goodies. Going to my parent's house is always fun.

Ethan stayed home with the boys and worked from home while I was gone in case you were wondering. He even painted the trim in our kitchen that I wanted done. AND kept the house clean. Amazing.

The Safeway family of stores is making it simple to give back with “2 Ways 2 Earn” cash for your schools with Box Tops for Education and the “10% Goes Back to Schools” program.

Here’s how it works:

Check your receipt from August 11 – September 14. The total will be updated each time you shop.

Beginning on September 18, a redemption code will be printed at the bottom of your receipt.

Visit backtoschools.escrip.com before October 13 to choose your favorite participating local school, then simply enter your redemption code to make your donation.
