1 month check up

At Gavin's 1 month check-up today he weighed in at a whopping 11 lbs 3 oz. And is 22 inches long. (Birth weight was 8.7 and 20 1/2 " long). His doctor gives me some unrealistic advice that I just laugh at when I get home. Here is the advice she gave me today:
He should be up at 7 am; 1 nap between 9 &11am, 1 nap between 1&3 pm (naps can be as short as he wants but not longer than 2 hours). Then NO nap between 3&8 pm! So then he should sleep from 8pm to about 7 or 8 am.

So that means he gets roughly a maximum 4 hour total nap during the day. That's almost as much as Logan gets now sometimes. I'm reading the book 'Baby Wise' right now to help him sleep through the night, but keeping a newborn awake so much during the day is just crazy to me. The doctor's appointment wore him out so he's asleep on the floor right now, and poor thing cuz the doctor ripped his little pee pee! (On purpose) She said it had started to heal, but you're supposed to see that purple ring all the way around and on his you couldn't. It started to bleed, I felt so bad.

Baby Wise is the best.

Look at how chubby he's getting! I love it :) Yeah, the whole sleeping thing seems really unrealistic. I haven't heard of baby wise but I'll have to check it out. Sounds like he had a penal adhesion - Chandler had to have those freed up almost every appointment the first year :( It made me feel bad and our ped said I could do it myself after he had a bath but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I love that picture you posted of him, absolutely precious. Glad to hear he's doing so well.

The napping stuff is totally bizzaro! I would laugh too. That's the schedule that Ellis is on and she is 6 months old! I even sometimes think it isn't quite enough either.
I'm also glad that I have a girl and don't have to deal with pee pee issues. Poor little guy!

Poor little guy! I agree: what kind of baby is on a schedule at 1 month old?! Get real, doc! They sleep when they want to sleep. Good luck with that schedule. :)

I can't believe he's so big already!! Did Logan put on weight that fast? i hope Gavin was listening when the dr. talked about his schedule, like that's all you need to do is tell him when to sleep and he'll do it! Wouldn't that be nice. We'll see you soon.

I actually didn't think that advice was too bad - but then, that is Eli's exact schedule. Haha. Well, I have to admit it took him about 2 1/2 or 3 mos. until he was doing that though. And luckily, he sleeps in until 8:30am along with Dean. I love that.

His little cheeks look so cute in the picture you posted. So sweet.

That's really funny that a Dr. would say anything as if you hadn't gone through this once before. Jude was on a schedule at one month but not one I put him on he made up his own but by 6 weeks he was sleeping through the night he was just a tired boy he still sleeps in to 9 sometimes later and takes a 3 hour nap each day. Kids will sleep as much as they need stupid Dr.

11 pounds! That's so awesome! He's such a cutie, and yes, just let him sleep as much as he wants! I've never heard of a 1 month old only having 2 naps. I remember Cyrena had 3 naps a day until at least 4 months. You know your baby, he'll figure out the nighttime sleeping.

That advice is a total crack up. Allison is 8 months and still changes it up every now and then with naps. Today she took 3 long naps and still wanted to go to bed at 8pm. They will sleep when they need it and tell you when they're tired. Hopefully he will get on a schedule that works for you but I would throw that advice right out the wondow. And so sad about her making him bleed, poor little guy
